I can not believe that last month I was celebrating 14 years of being a salon owner!

It is crazy how time fly’s and what has changed. I can still remember so clearly the day I opened without 1 client!! On launch day was just my family! I think I was nuts doing that looking back, but the hard work paid off.

I made all the mistakes, so you don’t have to. I know what works in a beauty business and what doesn’t. I wanted to share with you some of the valuable lessons I’ve learned during my 14 years of running the salon. I’m passionate about helping other beauty businesses succeed and I believe these tips will help you fast-track your success if you action them.

1. Get off the salon floor! To work on your business, not in it, you need to step away from the day-to-day operations. This will give you more freedom to focus on the big picture and grow your business. I made this change in year 6 of my business and have since helped others do the same within a year.

2. Set boundaries. Having a CEO mindset is crucial to your success. You need to ensure that your business is working for you and your lifestyle, not the other way around. Establishing clear boundaries will help you prioritize your time and avoid burnout.

3. Know your numbers. Pricing your services based on what other salons or therapists in your area are charging is a mistake. Each business has different outgoings, which means your profit margins are also different. Knowing your numbers is key to setting prices that are profitable for your business.

4. Learn how to run a business. You cannot run a successful business if you don’t have the necessary business skills. Investing in your education and learning about all aspects of business will help you make informed decisions and ensure the long-term success of your business.

I have many more points to share, but I believe these four will help you get started. Which one do you need to work on next? I’m always here to chat and offer advice. Feel free to hit reply, I love a chat!
